While I know you can drill tanks that way, it's not too neat and not my style. Like Patrick said get the right tools and do it right.
These are some pics I took when I drilled the 140. I use brass bits like Patrick was talking about. These are essentially just brass tubes. They wear through the glass with the aid of a slurry made of silicon carbide grain and water. I think they make the neatest holes. The last two are just links since I had more than 4 pics.
