The pump you are looking at is excellent. I use one as a top off pump. However, the pump does make a lot of noise. I wouldn't recommend them if you want a reasonably silent system.

As for one pump failing when you are away, you should use a pair of float switches, with one set to shut down the pump if the water level in the sump gets too low, and the other set to shut down the pump if the water level in the sump gets too high.
