I do have yet another question: the powerhead in polly's 10 is 125gph. At around 7 gal of water that's a lirrle more than 17x water movement. However, no matter how I aim it(even straight up) it moves all the sand around(like to on top of the LR). Any suggestions on how to divert the flow? Tubing maybe?

Have you tried mounting the power head in the vertical middle and all the way to one side of the tank? Then direct the output flow to the length of the tank. That's how I've got my wife's 10 gallon nano circulating, aside from the overflow system.
