Default 55 gallon soft coral aquarium revisited

On Sept. 09, 2007 I posted photos and information showing a 55 gallon bare bottom soft coral aquarium.

Photo #1 shows the aquarium at that time.

Photo #2 shows a medium close up of the aquarium.

Photo #3 shows the aquarium as of Feb. 07, 2008.

Photo #4 shows a medium close of the aquarium.

In the last 5 months the elephant ear coral on the left has quadrupled in size. Many new mushroom corals have showed up. Virtually all corals have increased in sizeand maintained rich dramatic natural colors.

Many decorations with corals had to be repositioned due to their requirements for unrestrained growth.

No new corals or decorations have been added.

The elephant ear coral on the right has maintained its size. It is speculated that this coral when expanded comes into contact with three of the inside walls of the aquarium. Therefore to allow this coral to continue natural growth, it must be placed into a larger aquarium.

The only things done in the last 5 months have been:

1) 10% water changes with 100% Marine Environment® dual phase formula™.

With each partial water change a siphon was used to remove detirtus from the bare bottom of the aquarium

2) A small amount of Tetra Marin® flake food was added on a daily basis to feed a large Amp. melanopus (tomato clown).

3) Decorations with corals were repositioned to allow for uninhibited growth.

4) The regular removal of coralline algae from the inside glass.
