Set it out in the sun for a few days and ten empty it. I was told somewhere that you need 5 lbs of salt per 20 gal. So I put 20 lbs in mine waited 5 days. I then emptied and let air dry. It smelled like the previous but no as strong. I repeated this and after two times the smell was very faint. It seems okay now.

Here is a quote from Den Hartog Inc makers of the Ace roto mold products:
"Our tanks are made from virgin polyethylene resins.
The VT 0265-31 would have been made from ExxonMobil LL 8460 this material has FDA approval
for direct food contact. Polyethylene is an inert material and would not leach toxins, the plastics
that have been in the news for that are PVC and polycarbonate. Some of our tanks are used to
store ultra pure chemicals used in the computer chip industry."
