On saturday i worked all day but when i got home i looked everywhere for the fish, even in my filter sock..
So today i was doing a water change and noticed something move out of the corner of my eye in the sump, and sure enough there he was... somehow he got into the overflow box through the U tube down the drain into a filter sock, out of the sock under a baffle and over a baffle in the sump and he was near my return pump which didnt have a cover over the intake!!
I cannot figure out why or how he did this.. he is tiny, about an inch..

Yea, gobies are good at doing just that. I can't count the times a small one got through my filter system to the sump. Of course it's also possible he jumped from the tank. and got lucky and landed in the sump.
About all you can do it put him back in the tank, and try to use a finer filter screen to keep him out.
