To all those participating in RAG Gold Project #1 (Variables & Standardization).

Our first step is to have everyone mix the supplied marine salts and test them with provided test kits.

Mix the salts according to the instructions via enclosed survey form.

Return the survey/questionarie form provided.

Any and all initial and/or future test results, or questions should be emailed to me directly at: aquacraft1@aol.com Make the subject line.... RAG Gold Project #1.

We do not want incomplete or misunderstood test evaluations being posted. The idea is to have all participants supply me with their initial and future test data. This way we can compile data and provide finalized meaningful information to others interested.

We all have the same batch number BIO-SEA. We all have the same batch number Elos test kits. This first step insures consistency.

Lets start with comparing our various test results with freshly mixed salt water as instructed with the enclosed survey form.

Provide me with results testing the same water sample with Elos and other brands of test kits you have. Provide the names of other brands of test kits you used.

Step by step we will approach variables as they develop. This will allow us to identify the variations within our individual aquariums and their results.

Gold and Ronnie.... This is what RAG is all about.

OSB... enjoy the Elos kits. Jesse came through!

Chuck, of course you are "cut-in".

To all, no matter what salt mix you were using, please mix, test and use the provided BIO-SEA.

If anyone has questions about Elos test kits, please contact them directly at: info@elosusa.com Address your inquire to Jesse.

Elos USA (pronounced L-os not E-los) was kind enough to work with me and participating gold level RAG members with this project.

DaveK, we sent you Elos test kits. If you with to receive BIO-SEA for this project, let me know.

Patrick, you also received Elos test kits. If you with to receive BIO-SEA for this project, let me know.

DK and Patrick were not sent salts as they are knee deep in Marine Environment.

Cheers.

If any salt packages were torn open,.... make a claim with UPS immediately.

It is essential that each participant gets sealed packages of salts.

We want to avoid any contamination. We all want to use factory sealed packages of salts that are dry and free flowing.

Make a stink with UPS. Have them provide us with a "call tag" so we can resupply you with primo goods.

Easy enough. I just thought that it was odd to receive 8 test kits, a whole butt load of salt, and instructions to test one single batch of makeup water then send in my results.

I should have the first batch made up on Sunday.

OSB, this part of the project is for everyone to test the same batch of salt with the same batch of test kits.

After those results are reported, we can be assured that each mixing of salts (and continuing water changes) will be the same chemistry.

It will be interesting to learn if any of us has dramatically different test results after initial water has been hydrated. If this is the case, lets learn what variables are employed in mixing new salt water.

Secondary water testing can be performed on our aquariums. This prior to a water change. Then another test after the water change. Lets learn what percent of water change must take place to restore ionic levels to new water?

Lets learn if different brands of test kits yield different test results?

Each of us has a different bio load. Lets try to assertain what animals at what approximate density will require more frequent or larger size water changes.

After several weeks, we can learn from each other what differences in lighting, flow rate, dietary additions, etc. will result in different visual results with our captive live stock.

OK: Did you all receive what I received except you received Bio-Sea instead of Marine Environment?

I received:

ELOS:
Mg test kit-~$20
pH test kit-~$20
NO3 test kit-~$20
NO2 test kit-~$20
Ca test kit-~$20
PO4 test kit-~$20
NH3/4 test kit-~$20
KH test kit-~$20

Aquacraft:

Aqua CAl calcium suppliment-$9.99
Buffer + dKH generator-$6.99
pH adjuster raises pH-$5.99
2 cases of marine environment salt-$160

Grand total of $343 not including shipping?

Hmmm? So I ask you, was the $50 gold membership price worth it?

This was definately worth the $90.00 for my 2 year membership

I got the same as Patrick but less salt as I have a nano and the Salt is Bio Sea which I am already using due to the free Salt from Aquacraft in January.
$218 plus shipping. Membership has its privledges.
I have never been one to do a lot of water tests but that is about to change.
