This is the classic problem with RIO pumps. If you take yoru pump apart you migtht find the problem. Try to soak it in vinegar water mix also.

Did you power off the pump or did it just quit.

Personally I would replace it with a Mag drive.

Hopefully the imeller shaft did not snap.

I still for some reason have rio's on my protien skimmers. If you powered it off and it won't start you can usually wack the side and it will re-start.

Also, switching to a mag is great advise.

Yep,, Everytime I turn my rio off I have to take it apart to get it running again. It's just salt buildup in the pump.

Usually I just have to unscrew the intake and it'll start. Sometimes I have to jiggle the propeller to get it going again.

I know I will never buy another RIO again...

Hope this helps

Same here. They had them all marked down 50% not long ago trying to get rid of them.

However, I have three of them in use...an 1100 at my office as a return pump, and a 2500 at home running my skimmer. I do have to say that the 2500 has been a champ. It has never failed to start back up after being powered off. The 1100 on the other hand, is a total piece of s**t. I use an 800 as a mixing pump for Kalkwasser too.

Once these have completely gone to pot, you won't find me buying another one.

We stopped usign them because we used them as transfer pumps for water changes, and everytime I'd stick my hand in the water my whole arm would go numbd after getting shocked.
We started carrying the CAP pumps instead. I dunno how much better they are though. At least they haven't shocked me yet
I'm still stupid enough to use a rio2500 for my return pump on my tank though.
