Egg crate (plastic white grid) is good at keeping fish in. Glass supposedly stops UV which some corals like to have. Egg crate is easy to cut to fit.

Ive had some fish jump but i think it was when i had bad water parameters, or sometimes to much water temperature.

A lot depends on the species of fish. Usually it's because they are trying to get away from something, real or imagined.

Temperature could be a factor, because the fish might swim faster, or be more active.

I doubt poor water parameters are to blame, unless they are so bad that it's hurting the fish. For example, if you had a huge ammonia spike.

I have a narrow piece of glass just under my T-5 strip due to bubbles popping and causing splash. I was also affraid of those little slim legs my T-5s sit on would give way or whatnot and cause my lights to take a dip in that nice shimmering water. Of course I don't think my corals/fish would appreciate that zap one bit!

I may have to remove it cause I'm tired of washing it every WC because of the salt residue etc... I'll just grow some balls and remove it!

Apparently, I spoke too soon. I came home last night to a chromis on the floor. This is the first fish I have ever lost to carpet surfing.
