Default live rock turning black

Hey guys I just found a small area on a piece of my live rock where it appears to have started turning black. It was about half a square inch. It was only a small piece of rock so I threw it out but has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

Could be cyano. Can you post a pic and your water parameters?

It could also be a sponge, or a few other things. Its really hard to tell with out a photo. However, removing it does resolve the issue.

I found another spot on a different rock. Sorry I don't have a cam right now but it this helps it looks just like some kind of black fungi my calcium is at 500 alk is at 179 ppm nitrates 5 to 10 phosphate 0 ppm tomorrow I'm gonna try scrubbing it off in several small buckets of aquarium water. And try my best not to disturb it while removing it from the tank so It won't have a chance to spread.

There is some kind of black tar looking algae/sponge that is on some of the rocks in the waters off the coast of Florida. I suspect this is what it is. It does need removed as it will grow and cover anything else that is on the rock.

I have a few of those black sponge looking things on my rocks; doesn't seem to bother anything.
