Default CupriSorb by Seachem?

Have any of you used this product? It's used to remove copper/metals - supposed to just put it in your aquarium and it turns blue when it's absorbing. They tell you to clean in in water and muriatic acid so you can 'recharge' it. I got copper in my aquarium and it seems to have killed (or killing) my coral slowly (actually just my zoo's) I'm also using poly filters with the CupriSorb.

When I bought my naso tang and was floating him, he punctured the bag with his fins and the water from the LFS leaked into the aquarium. I couldn't figure out why my coral looked so bad the next day... I honestly just thought the tang was rubbing up on the coral as he explored. It just clicked last night while at work that it might be copper. I called the LFS and asked them if they used it - they said they havn't in a long time, but would test their water for me in that particular aquarium. Sure enough it was at .25ppm. :curse:

Yes, that is a copper problem. They must have had a tremendous amount in the LFS system, because treament levels should only be .15 PPM or so.

Those products may work, but I'd start some large partial water changes to get the copper down. 25% for about 5 changes done every other day.

Yeah I did a 20% water change yesterday, and got the water mixing for tomorrow, gonna do the same. I fear it might be too late for my coral though, many of them wont open and appear to be bleaching. The another FS told me to use black powder to try and save 'em... so i'll give it a try.

Good, you are off to a good start with the copper!

As I recall "black powder" is carbon, and that's unlikely to do anything for copper, BUT when you have you corals at risk using products that have little or no adverse effects, and might remove the copper is well worth trying.

Copper is at 0ppm w00t. She told me to use the blackpowder stuff to try and stimulate the coral to come back. It's actually called Combo Vital it's SpectraVital and Blackpowder mixed together it's a marc weiss product. Right now the only things doing good in the tank are the star polyps, and yellow button polyps... the rest of the zoo's are all yucky... some of them I can see color and it looks like they're alive, just stressed all to hell. I took one frag out today that was for sure dead. I hope they pull through

Good to hear your copper level went down. I would still perform 2-3 more water changes just to make sure.
