they have parabolic scanning devices that can tell if you are consuming more than the are supplying. Kinda like the cable company. Besides, dont you like your neighbors?

you could always wrap your house in tin foil to fool the scanners......

There ya go. I already wrap my head in foil so the aliens can't read my mind.

ok - sorry to take so long to think(my wife had "stuff" for me to do anyway)
I have decided to go with the 300g previously mentioned in the thread. It's a steal at $500.00. Bad news is We'll have to take a road trip to Chicago, Il. to get it. The way I see it though I'm still saving a bundle. BTW the tank is reef ready with corner overflows. The current owner doesn know anything about it cause he had it professionally installed and maintained, so some of the plumbing planning will have to be figured after I pick up the tank.

I have also decided that the continuous WC's will be the way I'll go. Lighting I'm still unsure about, but am leaning towards the 4x400w MH's as Chuck suggested. Do you think the Polaris LED's would work for this size tank? Chuck?

As far as sump/fuge goes I will definitely use my 75g for that and use the 2 4x65 pc's.

next question - with continuous wc's would I need a skimmer? I am still working on a wish list for fish but I'm not planning on having very many fish. This tank will be mostly softies and lps.

I would say the H4 series PFO lights would work but you would be looking at two of the 48" for a total of about $5500. Unless they can make you one. They currently only go to 72". At the rate the price increases, it "appears" that they might be able to make you one for about $4500.

I don't know that you'll find anyone currently doing continuous WC's so the question of is a skimmer still needed may be hard to answer. In my opinion, a skimmer can't hurt so I would plan for one. If you find it's not needed then you can get rid of it.

If I go with skimming, I was looking at the aquac ev400 powered by an iwaki md55rlt at 1080gph. after plumbing, would be around 2.5 times the total system volume. That should be enough?

I think it would be fine unless you overload your tank. You can't go too big. If you can spring for the EV1000 then you wouldn't have to worry about anything.

whopper of a price tag for that one, but would definitely do the job. I'll keep it in mind.
BTW - dont I owe you money?

Yea, like $20 but I'm not gonna hunt you down and throw you to the fishes if I don't get it.

It is kind of nice having money sitting in a PayPal account. I was able to order a lux light meter and didn't have to dig into my pocket for it. Should be here in a few days.
