I tend to vote in the Republican area BUT the current frontrunner does not share my values (though I value his service to the country). McCain will do what he thinks is right which will mean that he will do some things I don't like.
On the other hand..... Clintons values (which are diametrically opposed to mine own) are subservient to the polls. She will do what the majority of Americans want in order to keep power. As long as the majority of Americans want A or B, she will try to provide it....

I just re-read my post and the humor didn't come out anywhere near like I thought it would. It makes me sound much angrier than I am; I'm not mad at all. Now that I am no longer in the military, the POTUS really isn't going to make much of a difference in my life.

My thoughts on the presidency is that we have over 300 million people in this country, and this current crop of canidates is the best we can come up with? It's no wonder we haven't had a good president for about 40 years.
Regretfully, it comes down to picking the lessor of two evils. Sure you could vote for an independent, but that only aids the major party you would least like to see win.
I'd like to see a reasonable third party arise. I don't think it will happen though. The two major parties go out of their way to prevent that from occurring.
Personally, I think George W Bush has been a complete disaster for the country, so I doubt I'll be voting Republican. On the other hand I don't think either of the Democratic contenders have enough experience to handle the job. Bottom line though, I don't think they could do any worse than what we have now.
I do not think W. Bush was a disaster at all. I do not like all the fiscal spending he did. But on all other fronts I think he was a heck of a lot better than the alternative at the time. Just think what his opponents would have done in IRAQ and the Middle East.
GW had to write begging congress for money to just clothe the troops. He couldn't get what the military needed and they still did well.
Think I meant GW Bush?
I meant George Washington.
Balance is the problem. Take enough tax money from the people to do what the government has to do and no more. Help those who can't help themselves and don't help those who can but refuse. Darn, I almost could support Ron Paul if he wasn't almost zenophobic.

That's the problem. No one can agree on exactly what the function of government should be. On top of that, just about everyone has their own pet projects that they feel deserve funding.
At one time, it was felt that business should not be regulated at all. Nowadays, it's generally felt that there should be at least some regulation. At one time the public education system didn't exist. Today, we have many mandated programs that every local school district must implement. There are thousands of other areas and issues. Where exactly do we draw the line?
About the best you can hope for is that they reach some sort of compromise and don't do too many stupid things. There is something to be said for having a president from one party and a majority in congress from the other party.
As far as the United States is concerned, the functions of the federal government are clearly outlined in the Constitution. What is so surprising is how few Americans have actually read the darned thing. I am one of the few people who carries a firearm with me everywhere I go, yet you will never hear me speak of my "Constitutional right to bear arms." My rights come from my creator; the Constitution forbids the government from infringing upon my right to bear arms. This and many other passages have been perverted by lawyers, politicians and other scum of the Earth.
Where is the Supreme Court in all this mess, would be my question. Talk about a group of pathetic assholes; these folks are the absolute bottom of the barrel as far as I can tell. High dollar welfare queens in black robes.
Again, my sense of humor probably doesn't come out in all of this and it makes me seem like I'm an angry guy. I spend more time wondering which cigar I am going to smoke than I do about which whore politician is going to steal my money and give it away in the name of kindness or benevolence.
I agree completely Dave, with regards to having one party in the White House while the other party controls Congress; nothing gets done and our country usually prospers. It's a mess when they match, as Mr. Bush and the neocon hawks have demonstrated over the first 6 years of Mr. Bush's term.
