Default Looking for a quiet pump

I know - go buy an Iwaki. I will if I must but I'm wondering how folks feel about the others.

Pan World
Gen X

Anyone have an experience with these?

Depends on size and if they have the built in fan!

I've used genx pumps and they are good, but not equal to an Iwaki. My genx is used on a closed loop. If it fails there, it's not a major problem.

If you are using the pump as a main return pump, or it's part of a critical system, go with Iwaki. The quality and availability of replacement parts make it worth it. If it's a non-critical area, the other pumps will be fine.

I should also point out that pump mounting is critical when you desire to keep noise down. Usinf a thick soft mousepad under a pump can do wonders.

Reeflo pumps are the best and best warranty. I know best is relative but they are not magnetic drive but motor drive and made in the US. They are super quiet! The snapper will be plenty power.

I need the pump to drive an ETSS 800 skimmer. Another Reeflo would be overkill.

GenX seems to be the cheapest so maybe I'll go for a Pan World. The Pans are supposed to be made from someone that jumped ship from Iwaki. The Pans are supposed to made to the same specs as Iwaki. "supposedly"

If Pan World pumps are made by some guy that defected from Iwaki and the pumps are made to the same specs as well as come with a cord as well as run quieter than Iwaki's (supposedly), then why does everyone still go with Iwaki?

I think I'm going to buy a Pan World for the skimmer.

Chuck,

To not answer your question...
I have an Iwaki MD40RT, and I don't think it's really all that quiet. Yes, it's 7 years old or so, but has been used for only about 3 yrs.

I am going to try the mousepad remount, as suggested by someone in this thread...
