I was just kidding about the wood.

But, the tank project looks great.

Now the real fun can begin.

Just picked up the new tanks. Only one tank is still on back order. It's the 30gal breeder that will be my new frag tank.

20 gal on left = New QT
29 gal other two = Will be direct connected to each other as a single sump

New Perfecto 150gal: 48x24x30

Has anyone removed the top bracing of a tank before? I assume it is simply siliconed on and I can just cut it off? I'll have to remove it to cut the weir for the external overflow.

NO - that's not a crack. It's celephane.

Are you sure its ok to remove the bracing.

In my previous experience, if a manufacturer designs a tank with a brace, its for a reason.

I used to have a 60 gallon tank that had a center brace (freshwater tank I had in my old apt). I removed the brace because I thought it looked ugly, and a couple of days later, the thing looked like a bowfront. Needless to say I quickly pumped the water out and had to juryrig the center brace back on and make sure it was secure.

I'm not removing just to leave it that way. I will add bracing back on to it. Haven't decided on just glass bracing front to back or a complete perimeter bracing.

I have removed the top rims, a pain in the butt, they are basically a channel filled with silicone then pushed over the top edge of glass.

Anytime man, im a PM/call away. Consider it a thanks for helping me with my corals and the RO water =)

I remember when i helped a friend with his headlights. It had silicon on the rim to protect it from the water. We heated it up and it was easy to pull off. I dunno how much heat the rim can handle though. Might think about alittle heat if you plan on removing the rim.

What do you do when the cheapy portable drill press you buy only has a 2 inch opening and the hole saw you need to use is almost 3 inches in diameter?
