You are nucking FUTS! Brace it with the bracing sitting on top of the size, this way the weight of the canopy will be spread out along all the glass available except where your weir is. IF you braced it on the inside then if you did not have it perfectly straight and level, you would create pressure points with a canopy.
All I can say chuckg is HOLY CRAP I'm glad to see everything on the tank has worked out needles and pins just thinking about drilling the holes myself besides th whole weir in the back great job.

Ah - life on the edge, ain't it great?
There "must" be a reason why, at least some, eurobracing is done with the brace on the inside rather than just laying it on top.
Why?
Because it would simply be too easy to lay it on top and people love challenges? I don't think so. There must be a logical reasoning that we haven't thought of yet.

hey ChuckG ! I just want to say I have read this entire post from the beginning. You are a very good craftsman and inventor with a steady hand for cutting glass like that. Your set up is Awesome I hope it all works out for you.

OK here is an interesting problem. I got my 2 55-gallon drums today for the salt mixing station and I was in the process of filling one up 5 gallons at a time so that I could mark it on the outside.
The problem is, no matter what amount of light I shine on the opposite side or on the inside of the drum, I cannot see where the water line is. It seems that these drums are made of a bit thicker / more opaque material. So how on earth am I going to be able to tell the amount of water I have in the drum at any given time? I want to be able to tell at a glance where I am at.
Huh. Mine is marked on the outside already. Have you tried suspending a flashligt on the inside?
Maybe make you a dipstick that you can stick down in the barell after adding each 5 gallons of water and make a mark on the stick and label it as you go. When you want to know how much water you have, just insert the stick in to the bottom and you should be able to get a reading off of it when you take it out. Make it out of some sort of material (like a long wooden dowel rod) that will show the contrast between wet and dry easily.
Yeah, I stuck the flash light half way in and in complete darkness, and couldn't not see any light. The dipstick idea is something, although having to keep sticking the rod in while the drum is filling up seems like its going to be a real pain. I was trying to avoid something like this.
Also - it may help to turn all other lights off when you stick a light behind or in it. Mine glows just fine when all lights are out. It is hard to see in daylight with a lot of light but mine are in a small room that I can make very dark if necessary.
