i too am for no car payments. the most i have paid for a car is 5k. no need to spend more than that since cars depriate to fast. as far as the aspire it might only need a new starter or selonoide. keep it going as long as you can. but then again i do all my own mechanic work.
I know it's a big hole. Here's the deal. There was already a hole in the wall because that's where the 65 gal was. This tank will sit on a stand, on the wall and look just like any other tank up against the wall when completed. I simply figured that since there was already a hole in the wall and eventually I'll have to replace the wall prior to selling that I might as well open it up as much as possible "behind" the tank so I'll have access to things from both sides. Tomorrow I should be working on making the hole edges appear cleaner and start working on the salt mixing station.

Call me a Redneck, call me Un-American - NO, I'm not watching the Super Bowl. (and it's right here in my own backyard) I don't believe I've watched an entire football game in my life.
My wife is watching some Paula Deen cooking special on TV. She doesn't cook but enjoys watching others do it.
ME - I'm working on the fish room. Walls are starting to look like walls again.

Finished the rough-in of the wall. I'll have to let things dry and sand it down a bit although I'm not too worried about doing a great job. I'll eventually have to replace this wall prior to selling so as long as I got things covered up it's good enough for me. I've left the baseboards on (hopeing to salvage them when I put the wall back to original form) and I've left that open. I intend to extend the floor of the cabinet right over top of those boards and into the fish room.
View from the fish room:
View from the living room. The stand and tank will cover approximately the square box I inserted into the photo.
I figure that I better let this dry and get it sanded before I bring in the water tubs to make the salt mixing station just to make sure I don't get any dust into the tanks so it looks like I get an evening or two of nothing to do except read other folks's articles on RAG.

Looks darn god there Chuck, You may not need to fill all that in if you're willing to sell w/ the tank staying. Lots of people down here are into those tanks in the wall.
I'm trying to figure out why you used full metal studs to seal the new doorframe you've made there. Also how did you close in that top gap? It looks as if you tapered it. Baseboard conservation... Good call!
Perfect timing! I've always thought a tank in the wall would be cool to have. Recently I've been seriously trying to get my head wrapped around all the work and details involved.
Why did you decide to go with a metal frame stand? I've been thinking about doing a wood frame as it seems like it would be the most versatile.
What do you plan to fill in the lower portion of the hole with? Will you just put drywall back in place once you have the tank and stand all set and positioned?

Yes, I more than likely will attempt to sell with this feature since when we move from here it will be to retire up in Tennessee. It either has to be sold with the place or be torn apart and the livestock sold off.
Why full metal studs? I needed something to secure the drywall to. Metal is easier to work with than wood. I would need to add studs to replace the wall down the road anyway. Maybe I'm missing something here ?????? I'm not a builder by any means. I'm a DIY'er that's not afraid to tackle anything. I've remodelled this entire place - every wall, every piece of floor tile, every electrical outlet, every every thing and although I've had no professional experience in the trade everyone that sees the place wants to hire me to do something for them. I just wing it.........
When I get time, I'll post a thread in the overflow of the work I've done throughout the place.
Top Gap: Like I said, I wing it. It is tapered. I took a piece of the thin metal stuff you use to make a corner (don't know what you call it) and glued it to the edge of the wall with liquid nails. This gave me a track to set a piece of dry wall on to. Then I used another metal corner piece opened up to about a 45 degree angle to join at the top. Make sense? This extra space actually will serve a purpose in this project. It will give me room to access the overflow of the new tank.
This will make a little more sense when I respond to the next post.
