I've obviously caused a disruption in the system. Several bristle worms and a bunch of micro brittle stars are exiting the rockwork and appear to be dying.

BTW: Lowering the durso in my overflow did correct the surface film problem.

It's time to sit back and leave this thing alone for awhile.

I could clean up some of the messes I've already made.
OR - I could start on the cabinetry
OR - I could do my taxes (which is what I promised the wife I would do)
OR - I could start on the cabinetry
OR - I could get some Fritz-zyme and speed up the cycle
OR - I could start on the cabinetry

I know - I have to finish the ATO connection. That might buy me another day of not cleaning up.

Anyone know if a keyhole limpet can survive a cycle? Just found a nice sized one in the new display. Doesn't want to come of the rock either.

You mean limpets that would rather die than be pried off a rock! I think he is staying!

You asked for it - so be it.

Latest Update: Age of new reef - 13 days

There really isn't much to discuss. Nothing earth shattering has happened in the past 13 days and there's not too much to do during this time period either.

Even though about 90% of the live rock that went in was fully cured and about 10% was only partially cured, I have had no ammonia spike whatsoever.

I chalk this up to Fritz-zyme's Turbo Start 900. - GREAT STUFF!

In fact, I had a small clump of xenia and some paly's that were on rocks that I wanted to use and so those have been in the tank since day one. They are doing just fine.

I was going to start moving corals over from my holding tanks today but I do have a light diatom bloom. Most folks would say this is to be expected with any new set up however I didn't expect it as this tank was filled with 100% ME salt. I can say however that the bloom that I have is nothing compared to any other system start up I've done with other salts. At any rate, I think I'm going to wait another week.

I am plucking blue legs from my holding tanks and tossing them into the new system and I picked up a dozen scarlett's from the LFS today as well as 3 giant turbos and one brittle star. They didn't have any snails so I'll stop at a different LFS tomorrow on my way home from work.

I also picked up a pair of diamond gobys that are acclimating now. I've decided against QT'ing them. They will go straight into the tank. I decided against QT because I'm afraid that a tank with no substrate might be more stressful on them since they are sand sifters. This particular LFS also QT's all fish for one week prior to selling as well as the tanks being kept at hypo levels. It's going to be a long acclimation process. Hopefully, I can put them into the tank before bed time tonight.

The 30 gal frag tank that will be connected to this system is STILL on back order. It's been 3 months now. I sort of jumped all over the guy and I think I'll probably have it within the week. Then it will be time for some more baffles, tank drilling and plumbing.

I got the ATO plumbed but forgot to add a shut off valve - DUH!
I fixed that today.

NO - I haven't cleaned up my messes yet.
NO - I haven't done my taxes yet.
NO - I haven't started on the cabinetry yet.

BUT - according to online tracking it looks like my solaris lighting will be here this Thursday.

That's about it......................

I have to call this LFS tomorrow. I've been thinking that it is awfully odd that the water was at such a low salinity. They have told me that they QT all fish for a week prior to sale but they didn't actually tell me that they keep their fish tanks at such a low salinity. I tested water from the bag and it was at 1.013. I find it hard to believe that they would take the time to acclimate all new arrivals for this. I'm also thinking that if they do it on purpose that they would definately tell customers about it so they would acclimate super slow.

Strange.
