Still no livestock for me. I have been noticing the ORP steadily rising, so it must be getting closer to being ready. Still only at 250 right now though. I haven't tested the water lately. Not quite two weeks into the cycle yet anyway. Mo time needed.

Are you still having issues with water clarity because of the sugar sand? I have the exact same sand in mine and there is still a slight haze. I am hoping it will clear up better than this.

Clarity is better. Doesn't completely cloud when the gobies go sifting around but I still have larger particles floating around now. Added a DIY 50 micron sock and occasionally turn the diatom filter on for awhile. It should completely clear in not too much longer.

This is an excellent idea. Most of us have lots of small odd pieces of LR around. I'd give you karma for this, but I've got to spread more around.

Sometimes, you have to photoshop the picts and make adjustments for the lighting in use. To get some idea of the adjustments needed, you can try taking a pict of a white piece of paper under your lighting. Then use it as a guide for what color areas you need to lower or boost. It will not be perfect but it's a guide.

If money is no object, and you have a scanner target, and the software necessary to create a color management profile, you can take a photo of the target, and use it as input to create a custom color profile. Then you just load the pict, apply the color profile and you have an almost perfect picture.

Keep in mind that ORP is a funny thing, and even if nothing is changing in the system, the orp reading tends to rise.

Check the reading about 24 hours after you clean the ORP probe, and that will give you some idea of how much the change can be, and if you are making any progress with ORP.

Chuck not long ago there was a nice post on the forum somewhere. I remember seeing the post on the front page that described and went into detail about aquarium photography. That's the only additional point I'd say other than having a copy of photoshop or other photo editing program to check the white balance after snapping the shot and additionally make sure that your monitor is calibrated as well.

Thanks Dave. I just cleaned the probe, so I will check it tomorrow. I wasn't depending on the ORP reading to know when the tank was ready, I have just already installed the probe and noticed it's gradual climb.

Sorry, Chuck. This is more of a community thread now. Ha! Feel free to post off topic in mine.

LOL - Does anyone "really" care? It'll get back on track on its own.

One of my diamond gobys has been MIA since day 1. It's the one that jumped as soon as I put him in. He either jumped again and I haven't found him or he died under a rock but I haven't seen a crowd of hermits and no ammonia spike either. Still hoping he'll show his face some day.

Got a day off. Sure feels good.
Playing around with what the cabinet would look like if I go through with my current thoughts. Using electrical tape I created the following.

Panels for the skirt would be pressed wood with black formica. The wife says it has to be a textured mica (not the shiney stuff). I think I agree from a fingerprint standpoint. It would look very much like the background in the tank or the covers I made for the cryptic sump.

These panels would simply attach to the metal frame via rare earth magnets. I would make corner pieces with magnets in the ends so they would simply stay in place (yet removeable) with magnets mounted in the tops of the panels and bottom of the upper hood. Hood would really just be an open frame made to hide the seams of the tank.

I like it.

I'm just not sure if I want to do it all myself or have someone at least cut the wood so it's perfect or go ahead and have them do the mica job as well.

Just cover the whole stand with electrical tape! You already have a good start.

Now that was inspirational.

I think it keeps a nice clean sort of Euro style look to it. I think it would fit in better with our decor rather than a wood look. Our place is a lot of tile, textured walls, kind of a hard stoney look versus a midwest log cabin look.
