He he he ...... I feel for ya man. I was thinking about the same thing but figured that the heavier sand would end up working its way to the bottom and I'd end up with the same problem all over again. If you try it, let me know how it turns out.

Gary, Where did you get your sand from again? I used the sand from CC and its a fine suagr sand but it does not cloud up the water when disturbed like the bag sand does. Not sure why but so far it has been great. Plus it was only a buck a pound and you know francis can't count good so it was more like .80 a pound, LOL

It's CaribSea and I got it from Fintastic in Sulphur. I also did like Chuck and didn't rinse it out. I just didn't want to use tap water to clean out the sand and introduce phosphates and no telling what else. I honestly don't think it would have mattered that much if I had.

I know I have seen folks on LARC post about the great sand at Coral Connection and did consider making the trip to New Orleans to get some, but being lazy as I am, I went the easiest route.

Sugar sand is great stuff, especially if you want to keep fish that feed off the sandbed or like to dig.

When it's new it's almost impossible to wash it clean. Unlike regular sand, sugar sand is so fine that it rinses away with the dust.

You can add some live sand to seed bacteria into it. Once the bacteria take over, they sort of "glue" everything together, so you will not have the dust problem.

There is no real need to add a lot of live sand, just a few handfuls to set up the bacteria.

If you just wait a couple of weeks your problem will go away on it's own.

Well, that is what I was hoping to hear. Thanks! I do like the way it looks and it is going to be a DSB, so I figured it was the best stuff to go with. I have nothing but time. Ha!

I had to bring this back off of page 20. Still a slow moving process. I have added a few things, but in a 140 it pretty much still looks like a pile of rocks.

Hey - at least you got a great looking cabinet. Wish mine was done.

NICE rocks. hehe

Really - it looks great. Too bad you aren't close to me. We could do a group buy on frags to seed our tanks.

Gary the tank looks great! It's coming along like a gem!!! I have the green Chromis (4) aswell. I like how they all stick together and follow the same movements through the water. Anyway keep up the good stuff.

I wish more people out there could do that. It would make building a reef $$$ wise would be a lot easier to afford. Although I must admit, that the thousands of dollars that went into the start up on the new system were worth every penny.

Looking really good! Read through the thread for the first time tonight. I love to see a tank that is growing up, gives me some reading to look forward to! How about a close up of that brain on the bottom, looks like a nice specimen and I would like a closer look if you get a chance...
