Garry,
How is your sump doing, did you tweak it?

Still using the foam pads and they are working well enough for now. I did swap the Mag 12 out for a Mag 9.5 on my return and that helped a little. I haven't done any modifications to the sump though - yet.

Why switch it out for a smaller pump? Just too much water flow? Or in my quickness to post am I showing my ignorance that maybe a mag 9.5 pumps more water then a mag 12?!

Yes, the goal was to reduce the flow through the sump. I have good water movement in the tank from a closed loop and a Sequence Dart. I just wanted to have less water crashing down in the sump from the overflow, creating fewer micro bubbles to deal with. So, I decided to try a smaller pump. You don't really need a lot of flow between the tank and sump.

Gotcha!

Speaking of bubbles, I tried making a DIY project with my Aqua-C Remora. I didn't like the idea of a pump being in my tank so I tried to rig an intake from the tank down to my pump in a bucket of water (to reduce noise) and sending it to the intake of the skimmer on the back of the tank. It shot all kinds of micro bubbles into the display. Very nasty. Disconnected it all and am contemplating having a weir cut into my tank for an overflow and getting a sump!!!

Would be simpler to drill it and install a bulkhead and overflow. Cutting weirs is not for the faint of heart. Remember ChuckG cracked his tank while doing this. It was just fortunate that the crack happened on the part of the tank he was removing. You might not be so lucky.

I would agree with Phlounder. Just drill a hole about 1.5 - 2.0 inches below your water line and install a bulkead. You can use PVC with a basket strainer pointed upwards to adjust the water height in your tank and it will skim your surface water as well.

Can we get a mod to change this thread title to "Tangboy's Help Thread" ?

No problem, I do it to chuck all the time. Kinda hard to have a thread about putting a system together without something sparking questions from other people about related subjects.

I would try a thicker pad, this should slow the water through the sump and allowing the bubbles to rise to the surface?
