I am not sure about how I am going to run it Sump/External... The venturi is plumbed to the cup to stop noise... I asked for air silencers, but Sean recommended this instead... I cant remember what he said was the other benefit, but it was something like keeping moisture down in the collection cup or something... I would have to call him back and ask to be sure

Air flow connection makes sense on the noise factor. But now I just realized that it appears that you can not adjust the air input?????

I dont know that I will need to, but if I did need an adjustment... Why cant I just put a needle valve, or something in the middle of each hose?

You can. I'm just wondering more why it wasn't there in the first place.

Well, I can tell you that with ORCA, you get what you ask for... I did not ask for that, so they did not put it

The tubing from the cup to the venturis may act as a silencer, but I think the main reason is to collect fresh water condensation from the moist air inside the cup. It then drips down the through the venturi, helping to lessen clogging from salt creep and to help keep the venturi clean. That is, I believe, an old LifeReef design. I know their skimmers have had that feature for a while. You will see beads of moisture form inside of the tube and run down into the venturi. I wouldn't put any sort of air valve in-line, as it is not necessary and will only restrict your air / water flow to the venturi.

BTW, I missed out on this thread somehow. I didn't lose my reef to Katrina, it was Rita (the other huge storm that everyone forgets about) that came only 1 month after Katrina and hit the SW corner of the state of Louisiana and SE Texas. The storm didn't get the tank, it was the power outage like Lukinrats, except our power was only out two weeks.

AND, I really didn't teach OSB anything. He is way ahead of me and even has a bigger, nicer tank than I do.

This is what I could not remember that Sean @ Orca said about the lines... I remember Rita too!!! I remember it just because we already had those problems with Katrina, and then took off to Puerto Rico for a vacation... Rita passed right over us while we were down there, and just kept growing... I remember thinking, OH!!! #*#&#, that is going to be horrible if this cane comes in down there @ the same place as Katrina, and we are not home... It did miss us, but hit like Phlounder says... I have many friends that live down in that area, that had it as bad, if not worse than what we did after Katrina

The people on the LA / Tx coast got it as bad as the Mississippi coast got it in Katrina, except that the area was fortunately far less populated. At one point, I believe Rita was actually even stronger than Katrina. Wiped the slate completely clean down there where the eye came ashore, like in Miss. I say down there like it is a long way away. It's only 35 miles from where I live to the Gulf and the storm surge came inland more than half that distance. There are still houses sitting (intact) in the middle of the marsh, miles from where they were originally.

Anyway, enough about all of that. I just hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon. Sorry we got off topic...
