No worries; life does go on.

I cheated and when ahead and added a bag of carbon to the sump last night; something I usually don't use. I figured that since it was a new tank, it couldn't hurt. This morning, the water was incredibly clear.

One thing that is becoming obvious to me now is that with a 29 inch tall tank, reaching in and grabbing things from the bottom is a whole lot messier!! I have to be careful of deodorant entering the tank now. Maybe I should just grab the tongs from the kitchen; there are certain benefits to living solo (hahaha!!)

Those are there so that he can crank them up and turn his tank into a washing machine.

I'm using 4 Tunze streams; 2 6100's and 2 6201's. All 4 are on a controller. If I crank them all up, I can get up to 80x the tank volume per hour turnover. Right now, they are all pulsing between 60% and 100% every ten seconds; this churns the top of the water pretty well.

Update:

I spent a few hours rescaping the tank. I probably removed about 25 lbs of LR; most of it was small stuff. It was always my intention to concentrate on flow for the tank, so I opened things up a bit. I may remove a bit more rock in the future; it all ends up in the sump anyway. I am very happy that I do not have the typical rock wall look. I had to remove some stuff from the middle to keep stuff from settling. It won't be ready for any SPS corals for a few more weeks, so may as well get the rock where it needs to be.

Does the A/C have to work harder from the heat that those lights put out?

Not really. The tank room is located downstairs and this location is usually the coolest part of the house. I also make use of a ceiling fan as well as a directional fan if need be. I'm going to be paying very close attention to the water temps this winter. I may be able to get away with never using heaters which is fine by me.

A seasonal change of a couple of degrees shouldn't do them any harm. It happens in nature.

I never had a heater (for six years) in my 75. The equipment supplied enough warming (along with keeping the house's ambient temp at 68 in the winter) to keep the tank in the upper 70s.
