My 7-year-old daughter loves my 75 reef so I decided to start her one. It's her old goldfish 10 gal perfecto.
1 - 50 watt heater
1 - penguin 125 gph powerhead with BIG sponge prefilter
1 - 18w pc (compliments of chuckg)
20 lbs. - carribsea bimini pink
12 lbs. fiji LR (from my 75)
This is just to start her out, we're going to go to the LFS and pick out some more LR this weekend. I figure she won't need a skimmer because I'm going to do 3 to 5 gallon wc's every week when I change my 75's water.
this is her tank...notice the secret weapon...the little bottle
this is the sand going in...nice big sandstorm
here is the finished product(water still a little cloudy from sandstorm)
this is the LR from my 75 - complete with a starter colony of zoos and her very first clump of hair algae
Looks like the little bottle from ME salt.
Doesn't look exactly like an accurate measuring device you got there
I wish my grand kids were close enough that I could help them take care of a nano. My 5 yr old has been learning the names of fishes for the past SEVERAL yrs. He would amaze people going through the LFS and naming all the fishes.

Polly wants to put softies like Daddy's tank and clowns with "their very own nemone". Is there a dwarf species of clownfish that could live in a 10 gal as a mated pair?
I know a clown fish breeder here near Knoxville who is very knowledgable about clowns and said that they will do fine in something that size. It's not the best environment but with water changes with a quality salt and proper filtration etc they will be fine.
He gave me a pair of clowns for my 8g BioCube that is on the bookshelf at school and they were fine for awhile but they just produced too much poo for the stock filtration that I got tired of waterchanges :P

That's really too large a bioload. Keep in mind that once you add live rock, the actual water in the tank will be about 6 to 7 gal. That's not very much to work with.
Also, the water quality demanded by an anemone is unlikely to be met in a 10 gal tank. Another problem is that a typical BTA, the easiest one to keep, can grow to fill an area almost as large as the tank.
I'd suggest one or two small gobies, or perhaps one small fish and a shrimp.
Of course, you or santa can always give her a much larger tank. (evil grin)
water changes will be rather large since I have to change 20gal a week in my 75. Maybe around 3 - 5 gal a week for hers. I have read somewhere that there are other things that will host clowns. Anything you can think of that would do this and not grow insanely large. She has her heart set on Nemo. Damm you, Walt Disney!!
