Start a new tank for a Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus).
Well this wil be another tank project for me. The stand and canopy were the only thing to make it on our move from Kansas to Alaska. The aquarium was broken and for 2 years I contemplated trying to find a replacment panel and repair the tank. After carefull consideration I have decided just to order a new Oceanic 58 gallon show tank. Quite expensive here in the great frozen north, but I have all of the other components on hand so it won't kill me. The live rock will come from an excess amount in my 200 gallon tanks Rubbermaid sump. For lights I am going with 2 96 Watt PC, one 6700K, and one 03 Accintic. For a skimmer I am going with an old Prisim (yeah I know some of you don't like them, but I was pleased with it on this tank before) from RedSea.
The main purpose for this tank will be to house one Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus). I plan to have the tank set up for a number of months 10-12 untill it is stabilised and have a good population of amphipods, isopods and benthic copepods. Additional tankmates will be a Lawnmower Blennie (Salarias fasciatus), a mated pair of Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni), and a mated pair of Gold stripe Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus).
I hope to use this tank as a grow out tank for soft corals from my 200 gallon as well.
This tank will be set up in my office so I can watch my favorite reef dwellers while I am on the computer.
