I had to trade in my starcki damsel yesterday cuz he was getting a bit aggressive against the perculas in the tank. he liked to pick on the timid fish. also, i was having an hair algae problem since i dont have any crabs. so i decided to get a flame angel. my perculas tried to nip him when i first added him in. luckily, the angel was fast enough to avoid any nipping. the perculas got kind of territorial against the flame so i bought a small yellow tang to slow down the aggression from the perculas. the tang and angel are great friends and swimming together constantly. they arent taking the flake foods yet, but theyre always grazing on the LR, so im not worried. Theres a lot of hair algae in the tank and a few algae on the glass that snails missed. Im hoping these two additions will help control the algae in the tank. My perculas finally settled down and arent attacking the angel anymore since she has a friend now. i think the perculas are upset i introduced new fish to the tank, but oh well---I need someone to take care of the hair algae in the tank. I'm just glad the angel and tang are getting along great and theyre not aggressive to the fish already in the tank. the pair of perculas slowly killed a small flame angel i had in there a year ago. The flame angel I have now is the same size as the other tankmates and everything seems to be OK. the flame hawk sometimes shows aggression towards the tang cuz he's usually the boss of the tank, but no fin nipping. I think he'll get use to the tang in time like he did with the starcki damsel. I know its early to expect the angel and tang to eat, but how do i acclimate them to flakes?
tank's been up since september. the reason i have 1/2" sand bed is because i dont want the detritus or uneaten food resting on the bottom. the circulation in my tank keeps most detritus from settling on the bottom. saves me some maintenance. most reefers say if you're not gonna go deep sand bed, your sandbed should be 1" or less.
Looks great !! I to have a flame angel and had yellow tang that loved to swim together It was fun to watch.
AFA the hair algea the flame angel eats micro algea so I don't think he'll help the hair algea problems. The sailfin blenny I believe is one of the few fish that eat that type of algea JMHO

looking good...one suggestion though, try to hide that "glass tube fish" hanging in the back behing the rocks and you could wrap the caluerpa growing in the tank around the cord to hide that too...
