yikes... My girlfriend won't ask how much this is costing me, and I won't tell her. If she ever found out, I think I'm a dead man too... but then again, it is MY money....
My wife gives me the money for it ( thats what happens when you get married ) but only so much a month so I usually have to just go and get it and say " well i read on RAG that this is a must for a reef " she doesn't mind spending it as long as we don't spend all of our money on it. i suppose thats what I get for having her do all the finances but I suck at paying things on time

Automatic Bill Pay thats why I am never late on payments ok, now reef update... So, I look in my tank, and My main feather duster that hitch hiked its way into my tank got mangled and chomped on. Sitting right next to my feather duster is the biggest hermit crab I have.... I wonder who the culprit might be... If they are gonna destroy other things in the tank, they could at least be discreet about it. Grrrr...
well, I know the feather duster isnt dead, he's a little mangled. its a little guy too, not too small, probably the largest one I've got, smaller than a dime tho... anyways, if that guy was dumb enough to not retract when a huge hermit crab comes by, then its his own fault. so, do these feather dusters mate, and spread eggs around the tank? thatd be nice
Got me on that one. All i know about them is what everyone here says that they have no right to be in the home aquarium, so i would never buy the big dusters. It would be a waste of money if Dave, pat and some of the others say dont then you dont buy them.

hmmmm.. I had no idea it was kinda taboo to buy them... I wonder why they dont belong in an aquarium... They arent like tangs, and require a butt load of swimming space, but hey, they know more than me, so I'm cool with that.
apologeticlies and jtmac,
Are you two falking about Feather Duster Worms (sessile invert, lives in a tube) or about a Feather Star (mobile invert, Filter Feeder, comes out at night and spreads BIG arms)?
Feather Stars can't get enough food out of the water column in even the biggest home tanks, and starve when kept. Feather Duster Worms are ok for even the most basic reef tanks-though a very large one would have trouble for the same reason as the Star.

ya, I was talkin about feather dusters. I was wondering about that too. I never heard about a feather duster not being good in an aquarium. I was gonna say, mine are doing great with the exception of the munched on one...
