oh yes, another question, How often do I have to test my water. I mean, I've been testing it every day now, and i'm getting the same results, I was wondeirng if I could get away with checking it every other day...
Once you have an established tank, you only need test your water from time to time. On an established tank, I don't even bother with ammonia or nitrite, unless there is a problem. I test nitrate and phosphate about once or twice a month, just to make sure those parameters are in range. You don't want them high, but they usually will not change overnight. Calcium and alkalinity I test about once a week to see if they need adjustment. I monitor pH with an aquacontroller, so I have a constant record of that. I usually check that about once a week.
If the tank is new, a lot more is going on, so the tank should be tested more often.
im not sure Kirin1. the ones I have pop out of the rock holes and just stay in one spot (day or night). The ones i was saying are hard to keep are the big ones with the tube. Didnt know there was a diffrence other then the size. Thats why im learning this stuff. i didnt plan on getting one or anything.

Right on jtmac, I don't think there's much differance between your HH dusters and the larger ones you commonly see at the LFS, at least not so far as how to keep them healthy goes.

I have my aquacontroller jr, and I need to figure out how to fix the ph reading. it says its like 52... I'm thinking thats kinda wrong... As for nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia, its all at 0. it IS a new tank, but I havent seen much change lately. I figured I'll check it frequently every time I add something new. Anyways, If anyone has any insight on this aquacontroller business, please, I'd like to hear it. Ah yes, I went to the LFS, and picked up some extra hermit crab shells, They are strewn on the sand bottom, and the all rushed to try on new shells. Kinda exciting...
Thanks reeffish! See? thats why I like this site better than all the others, You dont get bashed really hard on here, people are always nice I went and got 10 Astraea snails today. They are acclimating right now maybe some more pictures soon!
Ok, I was looking for some input on stocking options for fish. I want
2 percs
1 royal gramma
1 yellow clown goby
1 firefish
1 white ray goby
1 court jester goby
I was just hoping for a little more info, maybe personal opinions from the people who own them. From what I read, they dont clash, but I did hear that I should add some before the other to prevent any quarelling. Lemme know! Thanks!
So my SCWD kinda dumped out on me. IF i open the ball valve up all the way, it shudders, and i know there isn't enough flow from my pump causing it. I am looking into the OM squirt. Hopefully it'll work a lot better.
I bought some Nassarius snails
just to see what they are like, and they are pretty neat. They clean food up real quick. i also got some Astraea snails, and acclimated them for like 1 1/2 hours, and when I put them in, they seemed to be dead. Well, some of them DID die, and everyone else came on by and had a little snail snack.
I've been picking the hair algae off the rocks to help the hermit crabs keep up with its growth. I threw some chateto in the fuge too to obsorb some of the nutrients. My fuge finally has some live rock in there too! I'm going to get a cheap-o power head today to help the chaeto tumble as well.
