As I recall, you are not too far from the coast. If I had to make a choice, I'd use NSW.

Many years ago, about 40, I did just that. I'd drive to Cape May NJ and collect NSW at the north end of town. It actually worked rather well. Since it's loaded with bacteria to start with, the initial cycle was very fast. The down side was that the local water was only about 1.022, so I kept the tank at that SG. It was FO, so it wasn't that much of a problem. The other problem with NSW was that the water should sit a few weeks or be used in a tank with no livestock for a few weeks to prevent disease outbreaks.

Good luck!

As always, I agree with DaveK. NSW would be better than sidewalk cleaner. Anyway, I think that I'm gonna try to see how many non-reef uses I can come up with for IO.
Here's #2....in salt shaker for when mother-in-law eats Christmas dinner with us.

If ya'll have any suggestions please help with my list.

We haven't had any real winter here yet, but I do have some "Brand X" salt that I should try using for ice melting. It's not IO, so maybw we could do a product test, and find out once and for all what salt is best...for ice melting.

I’m stoked you found a salt that works for you but in my opinion this is personal preference, I use reef crystals and I have had lots of success with it however I may try ME if MDP sends me a batch to make me a believer.

Also I wouldn’t gather water from the shore line, if you plan on adding natural sea water make sure you collect a few miles out; hope your boats not in dry dock its cold here in NJ.

Yes, it's generally consideded much better to collect water a few miles out. When I did it I was young, and didn't have a boat or money to hire one. I did try to collect water off season. Late fall was best. The water was still warm, but the tourists were gone. Winter is just too cold.

how long can you keep NSW in storage? I'm planning a trip to Florida to go deep sea fishing and am thinking of collecting some for my daughters nano. I wonder what the captain will say when I show up to fish with a whole bunch of 5 gallon buckets....
