i went to the LFS and got the powder called erythromycin. they said it would take care of the red slime. is it safe for reef tanks???? i have clam, hard and soft corals. should i proceed???? by the way, i do water changes every week and my phosphate and nitrate levels are low when tested. the only thing was that my alk was way low. i use salt water purchased from the LFS. should that matter??? they say it's filtered seawater. lights are on 10 hours daily and current adequate as my coral move with them.
i went to the LFS and got the powder called erythromycin. ...
This is the same thing that is in most of the commericial Red Slime remover products. All advice on them applies here too. Only use it as an absloute last resort.
my solution to the problem was to reorganize my LR so there would be more water flow trough it and increased the flow and i dont have more cyano any more , cause i dont like adding stuff to my tank, try that method it worked for me .
oh yeah, don't use the red slime remover or any other medication in a tank that is not intended to be a hospital/quarintine tank. Cyano is not a major problem. It can be over come easily without drastic measures such as using anitbiotics (erythromycin).
