You could get a lawnmower blenny, he will tear it up. You'll need to know your parameters though to determine the cause. I believe pest algaes also show up when the spectrum of your lighting shifts. How old are your bulbs, what lighting do you have?

Even if you have added or changed a bulb you are bound to have Algae problems if your tank has any phosphate / nitrate...I found that out 2 months ago...still working to get rid of it...dont have a phosphate kit but nitrates show 5ppm...I added a phosphate filter sponge....

Um.. The hair algae started to appear about 3 weeks ago. I got new lighting in November I think. I went from a 15w to a 36w retrofit for eclipse tanks. Sometimes the longest my light stays on is 10 hours but only sometimes. Usually its like 7 or 8.
I wouldn't say the lights are causing hair algea. My lights are on for about 14 hours a day, and I don't have a hair algea problem. I agree with the nitrates and phosphates
