Welcome to RAG!

This sounds more like an algae problem, rather than a lighting question.

The bulbs used can be a factor in algae growth. What type of bulbs are you using? Are they more than a year old?

Controlling hair algae is more related to the levels of nitrate and phosphate in the water. What are those levels in your tank?

Algae blooms like you are having are often typical of a new tank set up. It's often just a question of time, and weeding out the unwanted algae. This assumes your tank is not overstocked, and you are not overfeeding.

PS - I have moved this thread to the Nuisance Algae forum and retitled it, so you'll get a better responce.

Default Hair Algae

I'm starting to get a little bit of hair algae in my tank. What causes it and what can I do to get rid of it?

Phosphate and nitrate control is necessary to control algae. You'll want to get a phosphate test kit. Make sure it can measure very low ranges.
