Yea no doubt orp monitor is a must if you plan on running more than 25- 50 mg of ozone. I had a sanders 50mg for years till it burned up kept it at 30mg no problems without the monitor.

It works for me. The water clarity is incredible. You can really see the difference over night.

Another way to see the difference is look at the water as you take it out when you do a water change. Without it, in your white bucket you will see how tinted your water is. Then the next time you do a water change with ozone, you will see no to almost no discoloration in your bucket. You have to see it to believe it.

Remember the clearer the water the more light your corals will get.

In a word NO! If you use ozone it should be use in a skimmer or ozone reactor, and the output water and the output air must be run through carbon.

Free ozone in the air is dangerous to you! Free ozone in the water is dangerous to your livestock!

Ozone (O3), which is an unstable form of oxygen, acts by oxidizing with (giving up an oxygen molecule to) anything that it comes in contact with. In laymen's terms, ozone acts as bleach and kills things like bacteria and viruses on contact. Not only does this bleaching action help reduce the pathogen
load in the tank, but ozone also interacts with dissolved organics in the
tank to make them less interactive so that they can easily be removed
by a protein skimmer. Ozone is passed through aquarium water to oxidize all forms of organic pollutants and kill many of the same organisms that ultraviolet radiation does. You should make sure the materials used
are "ozone safe" and that the water is passed through activated carbon
before returning it to the aquarium, because any residual ozone in the
water is extremely toxic to the fish. It is used mainly in large public
aquariums to keep the water from coloring. Any tubing it passes through shouldbe made out of silicon, which doesn't react with the ozone. If you use regular airline tubing, it will become brittle and break...you should also make sure that the skimmer you are using is compliant with ozone, or you
could chance possibly damaging it. hope that helps

I'm interested in watching this thread. I have not used ozone but I have used Potassium Permanganate in a wholesale system with similar effects.

Thanks, this info helps out some. I did read that ozone is useful only in certain
sytems, but found no mention as to what those systems where. Is the risk
of damage to the whole system worth the benefit this devise brings?? also
what are chances of killin the livestock in the event of a 'part' failure?? Oh and one
more thing, is a ultraviolet sterilizer similar without the harmfull possibility?

thanks,
Shellie

yes, an ultraviolet sterilizer is similar..but a lot more variables are at play. exposure time, flow rate, design, age of bulb, wattage of bulb, and considering if the manufacturers bulb operates at the appropriate region of uv light. someone correct me here if im wrong....but ozone is pretty much straight-forward...hook it up, and adjust until desired ORP.
